US famous Blues and Jazz artist to perform at Hue Festival

Internationally known blues and jazz singer CoCo York from the US will give performances, accompanied with renowned Vietnamese saxophonist Tran Manh Tuan in Hue and Ho chi minh city from June 3-8.
As one of the featured performers at Hue Festival 2008, together with saxophonist Tran Manh Tuan, Coco York will perform at the Duyet Thi Duong Theatre (inside the historic Hue Citadel) on June 4-5 and at An Dinh Palace at on June 6.

During her time in Hue, she will also conduct a master class with students of the Hue Academy of Music and Hue Foreign Language College. She will then return to Ho chi minh city where she first performed in 2002, for a public performance at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, to be held on June 8.

Born in Arkansas, CoCo received a music degree from Louisiana's Southern University, studied opera with Mattiwilda Dobbs, honed her blues and jazz talents singing in New Orleans clubs, and explored the roots of American music during a stay in Africa. In addition to sharing the stage with B.B. King and other music greats, CoCo received one of America’s highest honors when she was invited to sing at the 1997 presidential inauguration.  CoCo has proven herself to be a consummate cultural ambassador. As a musician and a professor at the Rotterdam Conservatory, she has introduced listeners in Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia to America’s music traditions.

The performance is organised by the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
